And this is why we love Gujarat!

Travel Coffee Vogue recently went back to its second home – the wonderful city of Vadodara (also known as Baroda) for some wedding shopping, sightseeing and of course, feasting!

One of the first places we visited was the Lakshmi Vilas Palace. This magnificent residence of the royal family of Baroda was built by Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III in 1890 with Major Charles Mant as the chief architect.

Built at £1,80,000, this palace is one of the costliest private residences of the 19th century. This stands as one famous monument of Vadodra which is high on tourist value.

Then with my extended family, we tried the famous ‘papdi no lott’.

And then… umm… we got carried away and had more food. What else a foodie can ask for? We relished some treats at Gujarat ‘s popular restaurant chain – HONEST.

After shopping, it’s time to hit the markets!

The range and variety of Sarees, Lehengas, Ghagras, Dupattas and dress materials available in the markets of Gujarat is absolutely staggering.

Even the most reluctant of shoppers will find it impossible to resist picking up beautiful hand made fabrics. We liked these three shops in Baroda – Radhaswami ( Ghagras, Chaniya choli & dresses), Jia Sarees ( Sarees & Lehengas) and Thakur Sarees ( Sarees& Lehengas).

We hope you enjoyed the sights & sounds of Vadodara, it’s definitely worth a visit!
