Kim Sharma launches her own bridal grooming consultancy service. TCV does a quick rapid fire interview with her.

Kim Sharma - 4 (1)

Kim Michelle Sharma is a Bollywood actress and model. She started her career with appearing in TV commercials when she was spotted by Aditya Chopra for his multi-starrer movie Mohabbatein. She has recently launched her own bridal grooming consultancy service – Liaison. So Travel Coffee Vogue had a quick rapid fire interview with kim Sharma :

  1. Tell us something about your bridal grooming consultancy service “Liaison”.

The reason I decided to start Liaison is that I first hand witnessed a brides day go horribly wrong because of complete lack of knowledge and guidance. When I moved to Kenya, I helped out a few friends who were getting married, and soon there were people who were not friends, asking me for my help. That’s when I decided to turn it into a business. There are many professionals in this business who are no doubt good and experienced in what they do, however, sadly with the term ‘celebrity’ or ‘known’ becoming so rampant, I noticed that sometimes certain professionals fail to give the time, energy and dedication to a client that may not get them any media mileage. To avoid this, Liaison offers through its vast vendor list and personal relationship, to give a girl before her big day all the importance and time she deserves. I also feel change needs to be lifestyle related and not for a day or a week. This is where I hope to give the girls knowledge and advice that they can apply, build upon and therefore change the basic structure of how they approach themselves both physically and emotionally.

  1. Tell us something about you which very few people know of.

I suffer from OCD. Everything has to be color coded, neat and perfect. At the same time, I love eating food with my hands; I can watch tv for 12 hours straight and sleep for 24 hours if I could!

  1. Are there any mottos or sayings you live by?

I have always believed in Audrey Hepburn’s quote – Happy girls are the prettiest! Truly, there is nothing greater than being happy, seeing your loved ones happy, and the rest as they say, will eventually fall in place!

  1. After a hectic schedule, where do you go to simply kick-off and have a good time?

It all depends on what kind of fun I’m looking for! If I just want some R n R, I’ll just head out to my mother’s place and get pampered by her. If I still have the energy to party after a hectic schedule then I’ll head to Goa or Bangkok with my friends; if I’m exhausted, then I’ll just sleep at home, call a masseuse and relax.

  1. Name few of your favorite movies.

To be honest, I don’t recollect the last film I saw, that’s because I land up forgetting it within two days, haha!

  1. What’s your ultimate travel destination?

It has to be New York!

  1. What’s your favorite dish?

I am a foodie! I like too many things, to name just one! My favourite dish depend would depend on my mood, the country I’m in, the restaurant and the cuisine I feel like gorging on. I just love food in general!

Kim Sharma - New Photo

  1. Where did you have your first ‘Fun in the Sun’ vacation with your friends?

This has to be Goa, hands down! We were much younger then, and Goa was accessible for us youngsters at the time, so definitely, Goa.

  1. Your favorite place in India?

India is so diverse: I love South India. Kerala, to be precise. I love the old world charm in Rajasthan with the palaces and extravagance it offers. Then again for party animals, there’s Goa!

10.The best place for shopping in India and abroad?

In India I love Delhi, and internationally, it’s New York.

  1. Music or book: which one would be better company when travelling alone?

  1. A fashion trend that you swear by?

Trends come and go. I always suggest to dress Classic!

  1. What makes you super happy?

I love spending time with my family. Apart from that Eating, sleeping, and shopping makes me happy.

  1. How do you like to spend your weekends?

It ranges from doing ten things in a day being super productive, to chilling in my pyjamas, lazying around and enjoying doing nothing!

  1. What do you like the best about Mumbai?

Mumbai’s undying spirit.

  1. A few words for Travel Coffee Vogue.

Travel Coffee Vogue is an interesting read and one that I closely follow. Wishing all it’s readers, a very Happy Diwali and a Prosperous New Year!

On this auspicious day when the good conquers over the evil and to celebrate this we distribute sweets as the most pious gift, I bring you a recipe as the easiest way to bring smiles on the faces of your family members and guests for the day.

Obviously, all of us want to present the best looking and mouth-watering sweets to everyone who visit us during the festive season but we cannot deny the fact that the best sweets presented are the ones made with the purest feeling of love and purest ingredients, which most of the shops don’t provide these days.

Thus, an input of efforts for as less as half an hour can bring such everlasting smiles of contentment on your face. So, all mothers reading this, I suggest you all to try this because I promise my mother got the best of compliments from everyone who tasted this.

Happy and safe Diwali to all of you 🙂

Gram flour (Besan) – 1 bowl

Sugar – 2 ½ bowls

Pure cow ghee – 2 ½-3 bowls

Step 1: Heat the pan and add 1 bowl of water. Pour sugar in the heating pan and wait till it becomes a thick liquid. This thick liquid is sugar syrup.

Step2: In the gram flour bowl add water enough to soak it up and make a thick mixture out of it.

Step3: Pour the mixture in the sugar syrup and stir it well to avoid formation of lumps. This mixture is called the batter.

Step4: In another heating pan add 1 bowl of ghee and pour the batter. Keep adding the remaining amount of ghee gradually mixing it well to avoid lumps.

Step5: Take a flat big plate and grease it with a few drops of ghee so that the batter doesn’t stick to it. Pour the batter on the plate and spread it evenly throughout the plate.

Step6: After it dries (becomes hard), cut it into pieces.

Taadaa MYSORE PAAK is ready!!

It was more than just a gig!!

30th and 31st of October, 2015, marked the 6th season of Harley Rock Riders in Mumbai – a gig for all the music lovers in an open and well-arranged warehouse of Richardson & Cruddas, Byculla, Mumbai. Warehouse gigs are fast trending in our country and a culture that we adopted from the west. Although we are not metal heads, we bought tickets for this gig to appreciate talent and art in every form, like we all should. So basically, there were 2 set ups which means there were 2 stages in two different warehouse shelters as the line-up was a big one. The best of bikes of Harley Davidson were on display and a trial ride was given to all the bike lovers.

Day 1: Honestly, we had never heard metal before this as religiously as the people around there did. The headliner was ‘Megadeth’ and it couldn’t get any better. Bhayanak Maut, Scribe, Coshish were one of the talented bands in the line-up. We could see people crying out loud, out of such admiration and bonds that they developed with these legends which could only be felt by them.
Head banging, mosh, yelling out the lyrics and returning with inexplicable satiety and contentment is the motive behind attending such gigs.
Also, Chris Adler is one of the best drummers the world has ever seen. Dazzled with their jaw dropping performances, we eagerly waited for the day we had never anticipated would be so close.

Day 2: A sunny Saturday, a group of ever ready fans and bands of extreme eminence and distinction. We bought tickets for this gig majorly for the 2nd day. Our all-time favourite bands were playing that night – ‘The Wailers’ and ‘Indus Creed’. And trust me, my friends, THEY KILLED IT. It was the best gig I had ever attended, so far.
It was crazy how we all went bonkers during the set of ‘Indus Creed’ we ran in delirium from the first stage to another to not miss out on anything. For all those who don’t know, Indus Creed is India’s oldest rock band and we vehemently suggest you to listen to their songs , RIGHT NOW!
‘The Wailers’ – Bob Marley’s band. I guess the name is enough, haha.. Reggae is one of our favourite genres and Bob Marley is love. There were tears in our eyes, tears of happiness, tears of attachment and tears for a person who was a revolutionary in ways more than one. Dwayne “Danglin” Anglin stole the show when he said “The world is filled with a lot of negativity. Cherish every moment of positive vibrations that you get.” That moment of telepathy and appreciation was beyond comprehension. It was, indeed, a memorable and prodigious night we all experienced.

We had a great time visiting this event. If you still haven’t checked them out, then go do it right now.

It’s One Thing to Have a Dream, It’s Another to Own a Dream!!!

We met up with Zainab Attari from Chimerical Creativity and gained some delightful insights on her favourite project; Making exotic Dream Catchers. Here are some excerpts from our conversations.

Let’s talk about the significance of Dreamcatchers.

In Native American culture, a dreamcatcher, the inanimate form of the word for “spider” meaning “dream snare”  is a handmade object based on a willow hoop, on which is woven a web. The dream catcher is then decorated with personal and sacred items such as feathers and beads.

The Ojibwa people believe that a dreamcatcher changes a person’s dreams. According to Konrad J. Kaweczynski, “Only good dreams would be allowed to filter through… Bad dreams would stay in the net, disappearing with the light of day.” Good dreams would pass through and slide down the feathers to the sleeper. Another explanation of Lakota origin, “Nightmares pass through the holes and out of the window. The good dreams are trapped in the web, and then slide down the feathers to the sleeping person.”

Personally, dreamcatchers are a reminder of positivity & hope for me. The things that happen are destined to happen and you cannot change it however hard you try but you can try to stay positive even in hardest of times. Dream catchers are a symbol of mothers, who sit by your bedside and tell you, it’s all okay when you wake up from a nightmare. That positive assurance helps you sleep through rest of night. Similarly, the dream catcher is believed to take away those bad dreams by assuring you every night before you sleep that “it’s all going to be okay”

Can dreamcatchers be used in forms other than Bed Stand accessories?

Dream catchers are ideally meant for rooms on your bedside but you can have them anywhere. They are a frequent reminder for positivity and these days also a very trending fashion statement. So you can add them to your neck as a pendant, earrings for your ears, accessory for your car, arm or wrist bracelets for your hands, to your head as a head gear at the back, anklet to your feet, keychain for your keys or just a dangler on your bags. You can also hang them at your work place or anywhere in your house! It’s more about the positive energy than just being a “catcher” 😉

What products do you use to make dream catchers and how many days does it take to make one?

I use aluminium rings, wool threads, and crochet threads, beads of various kinds and feathers of various varieties.

Wow! We’re going to get all of them! 😀

What inspired you to take this project up?

Creativity has been my forte and I have always wished to grow in that aspect. I am also a person who loves to bring a smile on someone’s face by the smallest deed. My business of weaving dream catchers helps me achieve both of these simultaneously. In a world filled with so much of troubles in everyone’s life, my work of art gives them a positive hope for a better tomorrow. We all need something or someone to make us feel positive each day and face all the challenges thrown at us. With my dream catchers I can help them mentally. It gives me happiness and self-satisfaction when I have achieved in making someone somewhere feel positive or helped them inspire to do well for others or simply mesmerize them with art.

Why the name Chimerical Creativity?

The word Chimerical means a lot of things such as conceptual, fanciful, fantastic, unreal, visionary, dreamlike, illusive, illusory, visionary, wildly fanciful or imaginary. With context to my work I would narrow it down to meanings such as these, fantastic, fanciful, dreamlike or imaginary. Whereas, creativity is because I do not copy anything from the net, it’s my creative ideas which craft each dream catcher in numerous styles, colours and sizes. Even when the client wants it exactly like some web picture, I add my own special touch. So what I create is a product of my imagination, you can see it and feel it but you can only sense the positive vibes if you have a fantastic imagination of the unseen power of the universe.

Do you hold any workshops to teach how to make these?

Yes, I do keep workshops once a month if I can fit it in my busy schedule, on Sundays only. I also keep workshops on personal requests.
